As times change, the focus no longer lies on whether a game has options for accessibility but instead focuses on the effectiveness of such features, the demographic it caters to, and the level of their integration into the overall experience. Playground Games decided to join with Forza Horizon 5, which is (happily to report) one of the most accessible racing titles of all time.
One challenge is understanding how empowering these FH5 features truly are moving forward from Forza Horizon 4. For players with disabilities, does it allow full participation in all aspects, from gameplay and exploration to healthy competition? I tried answering such questions as an advocate for accessibility and examined the latest release of Forza Horizon on PlayStation 5. My findings reveal that Forza Horizon 5 goes beyond meeting the minimum standards of inclusion, yet it remains incomplete.

Crucially, the assists are not "easy mode" gimmicks. They are balanced, scalable, and encouraged. Players can mix and match to find what best suits them, like automatic braking while manually steering or vice versa.
Thus, individuals who are often excluded from the fast-paced genre can not only play but also enjoy Forza Horizon 5.
Nonetheless, somewhere like auto steering, lacking a clear explanation can be troublesome. It can make understanding how much control is eased difficult, impacting one's learning or skill development.
The Road Ahead: Suggested Improvements for Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 lacks some accessibility options due to issues with information presentation. While the UI is clean and visually appealing, elements are overshadowed during high-tempo segments and fast-paced action. Offering preset or customizable UI scaling and high-contrast themes would mitigate these issues for low-vision players.
Work remains when it comes to including narrators to assist in menu browsing. Over narrating menus has its own unique challenges as well. Voiceover's skipping lines or miscategorizing prompts add more friction to an already challenging experience for blind and visually impaired individuals. Playground Games has made some strides in that area, but creativity that has not yet been balanced in the game can come from deepening those conversations.
